We party hard in the summer!

It's fun having all of our birthdays and our anniversary in the summer months.  I always loved having an August birthday growing up...you never have to go to school on your birthday!  It was a bit of a rude awakening as a working adult though that you don't get your birthday off. :)  Here's some of our celebrating this summer!

First came Nick's birthday in June.

It may not look like it, but this was a delicious ice cream cake with candles to spell out "29"

Then came Eleanor's first birthday!  The poor girl was sick and felt miserable.  She wasn't very interested in doing anything, including digging into her birthday cupcake.

She was pleased to meet her first tiny baby doll.  She loves to push this little stroller around.

She tried a little frosting, but was otherwise not very exciting to watch.

Camille was happy to help.

The cupcake cake.  I am not much of a cake decorator, so this was going out on a limb for me.  Nick has always been a great cook (thanks for that, Grandma Debbie!) but also has phenomenal culinary presentation skills.  I make sure my cooking tastes great, but by then I don't really care about the presentation. :)

The sickie with her poor little nose.

A week before Eleanor was born we knew she would be coming soon.  Every day I kept thinking, any day now would be great!  Just as long as you're not born on our anniversary we won't have to worry about anything overlapping.  Low and behold she was born 7am on the day of our anniversary. :)

After the birthday celebration, we went out for dinner to celebrate our 5 year anniversary.  Has it really been that long?!  A lot has happened since 7-7-07.  And I still love Nick even more each day!

We celebrated my birthday in Washington sans Nick, who was finishing his finals before joining us.

My mom and I made an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!  triple chocolate mousse cake.  We saved a slice for Nick who came a few days later and he thought it came from a bakery. ;-)  Definitely saving that recipe!!

We gave Eleanor a second shot at birthday cake, and she sure made up her first try!

Next came Miss Camille's 3rd birthday.  The night before I took her to the grocery store for some birthday donuts to have for breakfast and let her pick out a birthday cake.  I got lazy and decided to go that route instead of making one!

Displaying her "new" way to show she's 3.  She is all about sprinkles these days!

I'm sure she is thinking every breakfast will be like this now that she's the big 3

Eleanor got in on the goodness too

Cake time!  She loved this tiny cake with the "real" bird with "real" feathers.

It honestly took at least 10 tries before she blew any candles out.  And no, they weren't trick candles.

Thank you so much to our friends, parents, grandparents and the rest of our family for making our celebrations extra special!!  Cheers until next year!

RIP Galant....a Tribute to Nick's First Car

Nick has had his Mitsubishi Galant since high school.  He has a love/hate relationship with it.  It was a pretty sweet car back in the day, with its sunroof and all.  It's seen a few miles since then, and been through a few of Nick's ex-girlfriends (thanks for the dents, ladies!).  It holds some fond dating memories (ok making out in the car, hehe!) and then it transitioned to a married car.  Although we have made several repairs, Nick lovingly (?) referred to it as the "Gay-lant".  Please excuse the language.
The Galant saw lots of snow thanks to Spokane's record breaking snowfall of '08.  Can you spot the car?  Let's just say it was a few weeks before we got around to digging this out.
It had over 200k miles when the spedometer broke.  Nick bought an old dash cluster on ebay and replaced it himself.  The odometer now read 60k, thank you very much. :)
We were skeptical if it would make the 30 hour drive to Milwaukee for dental school with all of the miles it already had on it.  We were happily surprised that we made it with no problems!
Then one summer day, Nick was on his way to school.  His car kicked out of gear and he made his way to the shoulder.  The car would start but not go into gear.  Transmission shot!  Seeing that it would cost more to fix it than the car was worth, we said our tearful goodbyes.  Good news is we were still able to sell it quickly and find a good replacement car.
Lots of memories.  You will be missed Galant!

The Many Looks of Eleanor Iris

Little Miss Eleanor is one!  I was able to take some pictures while we were in washington this summer to commemorate her birthday.  This lady knows how to work the camera, and has a wide range of emotions.  We can't get enough of her bright eyes and little dimple.  She has been on the go since she started walking and it's getting a bit more difficult to capture a good photograph.  Although a little late (she just turned 15 months) I still wanted to document our cutie's 12 month self.

At 12 months Eleanor

  • Just started walking
  • Says hi, mom, dad
  • Loves to do anything her big sister is doing
  • takes great naps--2 naps for 2 hours each
  • not shy at all
  • loves the water
  • puts everything in her mouth!
  • is starting to get a little curl to the back of her hair
  • loves to eat berries, steamed broccoli, string cheese, frozen peas, and popsicles
Her weight: 19 lbs, 13 oz  50th percentile
Her height:  29 inches  50th percentile

We love you Eleanor Iris!
